Day 12

Image
Bonjour! Worked mu but off today.  I got all of the walls demoed in the main living area and took down one of the roller volets.  It's really starting to come together! This morning I was doing research and found / I think found that, our building or property was part of the original beret company from the late 1800's.  Today Mykle reached out to the historical society telling them that we purchased the property and that we are in the midst of learning french, so he was asking on our part for any information they can share/find.  He got a reply back and she will be doing some digging as well as her associate.  Stay tuned for more history of our home! :) Tonight we had a lovely starter plate of a fresh veggie salad (no lettuce) in a vinaigrette, a baguette with a blue cheese/bree mix cheese and sweet corn from Spain (not the same as the midwest) and wrapped up dinner with a tandoori chicken meat pie. :) Au revoir!

Day 11

Bonjour! Wow, truly a memorable day! It was a full day for sure.  Doug and I ran to the local grocery to pick more wine and staples needed.  Walked over to the Boulangerie for our pain au raison. :) Then the three of us drove over to the Gare (train station) and took the train into Pau for the woman's Tour de France.  When we arrived we had about an hour to spare so we walked to park.  There was a display of all of the Tour de France winners dated back to the first one in 1903! We watched the caravan procession and meet a lovely expat couple (Karen and Jim from California) then headed over to Pitaya for Thai.  Delicious!!!!  We headed to our friends and also expats (from Chicago) lovely apartment in-between the Caravan procession and the start/end of the bicycle race.  I'm not a huge bicycle fan but it was truly an event of a lifetime and will be remembered forever!  The nostalgia of being in such a beautiful city, the architecture in the backgrou...

Day 10

Bonjour! What a day what a day!  Started the morning off as usual and headed over to the house.   Today I finished off demoing the kitchen walls and removed the cooktop and propane tank.  That where the adventure starts....  I started the demo the other day and the outlet that I saw was dead, so I continued on to day and when the saw -zaw hit the approximate area, ZAP!  That's right, without details I had a shock from a 220 outlet.  You would think that I would stop there, but those of you who know me know that that's not enough to stop me. LOL I finished up those areas and moved over to the wall between the foyer and the living room.  Keep in mind the walls are a plaster type of material approx. 6 inches thick and heavy in full pieces.  I had a plan of attack and had the scaffolding all set up and thought I was good to go. We'll, that's where that adventure starts.  I started in the middle at the top and cut down the 4' wall....

Day 9

Bonjour! After a long hard day yesterday, I declared to day as a free day. We woke up naturally and Doug and I ran to Action to pick up another saw-zaw as I burned out the one I bought a few days ago. As we where leaving the house Toulouse (neighbors cat) greeted us by the gates. :)  Then we swung buy the house and picked Mykle up before heading to one of my favorite stores, Emmaus.  On the way we took a different route and it was so beautiful.  The views of the Pyrenees, rolling hills of green, villages of just the most beautiful old homes and churches, ect.  I wish I was able to take more pictures but we were on a mission.  I'm making a list of things that I want to do before leaving and revisiting some of these towns will be on it.  You'll see in one of my pictures a piece that I purchased for 80 euro ($88.24 + $20 delivery) from Emmaus.  We then headed into Pau for lunch at one of my favorite places, You Sushi!  Afterwards, we headed to ...
