Day 17

 Bonjour!

Woke up ready to go this morning.  Slammed a yogurt and banana and out the door I went.

I did a little more demo to exterior walls finding a lot more moisture and more mold in the bedrooms. A bit later I had a contractor out this morning to talk about the scope of work and pick his brain.  Had a great meeting as I learned a few things both good, not so good and bad.  It was refreshing to completely understand every word as the contractor is an Expat from Britain.

We obviously have a moisture issue with water penetrating the exterior so I will be meeting with a moisture professional to learn how bad, what our options are and such.  I do now know the best solution for the floors is to have them removed and approx. 3-4 inches of concrete poured and then we can decide how to finish the floors off. The recommendation was to get the moisture problem resolved, pour concrete this fall and attach the walls in spring.  This way we can watch or have Doug and Mykle to keep an eye on the walls throughout the winter months before adding interior walls and insulation.  I have a few meetings to to be scheduled before I leave to confirm all of the above.  Stay tuned!

After the contractor left, I opened up the drywall in the sunroom and sure enough, water damaged walls and black mold half way up the wall.  I removed a wooden box that was hiding a pipe to one of the radiators and that pipe (god only knows how old) had two points of leaking.

So, I wrapped it up for the day.  I headed back to Doug and Mykle's to draw up detailed plans with dimensions for the contractor and drew up an electrical plan as well as recessed ceiling plan.

Today I had a visitor! Our friend Trish who is a Expat from Boston purchased a chateau near the Pyrenees Mountains popped by to see our project as she was in town for a few appointments.  Trish is familiar with some renovations as she purchased a Chateau dated back to the 14th century.  https://chateaudegere.com/?fbclid=IwAR3UPgb7hekAnN6fmslW5vlFB_X4LvSoEodjmjQmaU5lcLtJuVtFb9uiGMU  As always it was a pleasure seeing her and look forward to going out to see her latest projects before leaving.  She was also on a show called Chateau DIY.  Doud and Mykle were on a couple of their filmings... https://www.channel4.com/programmes/chateau-diy/on-demand/71685-013 .

Later in the day the three of us took a walk around town to check out an old (1960's ish) building that is being torn down to build a park along the Gave.  Attached are a few pictures and videos of my walk.

As always the guy's are at it...Mykle is making a beef and broccoli stir-fry dish for dinner and having a creme (cream) and cerise (cherry) gateau basque (cake) for dessert. :)

Au revoir!
