Day 26
Bonjour!
Had an early morning this morning. I needed to be at the house by 8 to meet the debris guys for their pick up. However, our street is a one-way very narrow street and the debris guys need plenty of room to back in their truck. There is no parking on our side of the street and on the opposite side of our gates to enter the courtyard. People park in those spaces anyways and I can't get deliveries and such if cars are there. Therefore, Mykle helped me by making signs to put on parked cars, peoples front doors and a barricade with string tied to a post and the other end to our trash bin with signage. It worked! LOL I can only imagine the responses that I would get from people in the states. Here, people almost go out of their way if asked. :)
So, I finished removing ALL of the wood floors today. All but a small area approx. 4'x4' because the boiler is on it. Mykle posted on some of the Expat Facebook sites that I had parquet floors that I was getting rid of for free. I've had a few replies and not many follow-ups. However, today I had a British gentleman named Paul pop over and he loaded up his car and trailer with what he could fit in. There are many British Expats / Immigrants in this area of France as well as all over France. It's funny, anytime I hear someone say that they are from England, I ask where they are from in England. I explain that my grandmother was a war bride and where she was from. I usually get, we aren't near there or never heard of it. BUT, today, Paul told me that he was from a town less than an hour of where my grandmother grew up and lived before leaving from the states. I have to say, it was a pleasure meeting Paul and I look forward to meeting his wife Louise. They live in Pau and are renovating their home that they purchased and dates back to the late 1800's. Paul shared the history of his home and all of the renovations that they have been doing for the past two years. I know that our wood floors are going to a good home. :)
I wrapped up my day at the house and headed back to Doug and Mykle's to fresh'n up. Doug has been mentioning a store that he has been wanting to go to, so we took a little ride out the the countryside to a small town named Orin. We went to the factory store for Espadrille https://www.lapetitefaimbielle.fr/. Let's just say I may have gotten a little excited. I bought 8 pairs of shoes for 44 euro ($47.94)!!!!!!!! LOL
Tonight we were invited out to our friend Trish's chateau for dinner and drinks in her outdoor Tiki Bar in the Pool house. We had such a lovely evening, as ALWAYS! The scenery, the history and the company never disappoints! I also had the pleasure of meeting Pam who is from Washington state and relocating to the area here in France.
Au revoir!
